About the Course

The aim of this course is to enable practising electricians and others, operating in the domestic environment, to gain an understanding of how electrical installation in domestic dwellings must comply with all the relevant Building Regulations.

Part P is intended to increase the safety of domestic dwellings by improving the design, installation, inspection and testing of the electrical installation whether the installation is new, extended or altered.

Course Content

1. Defined Scope
Part P Defined Scope is a qualification for engineers who carry out work on domestic electrical installations as a secondary task to their main role.

The course will cover the following areas:

  • Applicable Building, Electrical & Safety Regulations
  • Pre-work survey/inspection
  • Safe isolation procedure
  • Earthing & bonding requirements
  • Electrical test procedures
  • Cable components & fitting selection
  • Installation & replacement of electrical components & fittings
  • Recording of electrical test results, completion of certification and notification requirements


2. Qualified Supervisor
Qualified Supervisors are individuals who have demonstrated competence through their qualifications, knowledge and experience of the building regulations and supervising/undertaking electrical installations to BS 7671.

Part P Qualified Supervisor is a qualification that covers the additional areas. The course will cover special locations, new domestic circuits, domestic lighting, maintaining domestic installation and 3 phase supplies in addition to the Defined scope.

Assessment and Quality Assurance

The course and assessment cover all the 17 competence areas as listed in the guidance document.

Enrolment Qualification

Defined Scope
The course is for those who carry out work on domestic electrical installations as a secondary task to their main role.

Qualified Supervisor
The course is for any operative who is involved in the installation of domestic electrical systems who wishes to join ELECSA "Part P" Full Scope Competent Person Scheme.

Course Duration

For the Defined scope, the course takes 4 days.
For the Qualified Supervisor, the course takes 5 days.
Upgrade from Defined Scope to Qualified Supervisor, the course takes 1 day.

Course Fees

Defined Scope: The cost of the course, which is inclusive of VAT, registration, assessment and certification is £816.63.

Qualified Supervisor: The cost of the course, which is inclusive of VAT, registration, assessment and certification is £934.13

Upgrade from Define Scope to Qualified Supervisor: The cost of the course, which is inclusive of VAT, registration, assessment and certification is £117.50
