Domestic Energy Assessor (DEA)
From the 10th of September 2007 the compulsory requirement to have an Energy Performance Certification (EPC) with the Home Information Pack (HIP) on every home coming onto the market in England and Wales will lead to a market demand of more than 4000 Domestic Energy Assessors (DEA).
For more information visit: http://www.homeinformationpacks.gov.uk
Qualified DEAs will work in various housing environments:
- Working on a freelance basis
- Working for HIP providers
- Working for Estate Agents
- Working for housing service providers such as energy retail organisations
As a DEA, further employment opportunities will be raised when homes are to be let in both the private and social rented sectors and the dwellings that will be sold.
This brand new job created by the need as a part of Home Information Pack (HIP) whenever a domestic property has to be build or put onto the market in England and Wales. The potential of being a DEA is enormous in the sense that only accredited and qualified DEAs will be allowed to do the energy assessment for 1 million and above homes annually.
As a qualified DEA you will be able to:
- Inspect properties to collect information on their age, number of storeys and building type.
- Collect data on the dimensions, construction, heating and hot water provision of the property.
- Identify corridors, windows and the number of fireplaces.
- Enter the relevant information into an approved software programme and explain energy efficiency ratings to the clients.
- Give practical advice on how to improve the energy efficiency of their homes.
In turn, the Energy Performance Certification will be produced based on the home's energy performance and recommendations on energy efficient behaviour.
